Curriculum Goals:

Bible: The curriculum is interactive, and exciting, presenting God as Creator and Jesus as Savior. Students who complete grades K-6 will have a foundational understanding of the Word.

Reading: Students learn life-long reading skills beginning in our early childhood where pre-reading activities and skills are taught. As they enter K and 1st grade, children learn using phonics. Students are challenged to read at their grade level or above, and are assessed frequently.

Math: Using math manipulatives and encouraging mental math, students actively approach each math concept. Instruction encourages students to master concepts through concrete examples and reviewLanguage Arts: Students learn the principles of grammar, spelling, and writing, integrating each into their daily and project work.

Science: Scientific knowledge is increased through an excellent curriculum, and hands-on learning. Students are taught to practice good scientific method in order to gain a greater understanding of God’s creation.Social Studies: Students in each grade level study specific communities, past and present, including Washington State History (Middle School). Students not only learn facts and dates, but more importantly how to relate global relationships through verbal expression, art, and drama.

PE: The goal is to have every student achieve at least the 50th percentile (National Standards), as well as experience skills and organization of games and sports.

Performing Arts: Giving students the opportunity to learn music, rhythm, public speaking, and drama skills builds their self-esteem, and confidence.

Early Childhood: The half-day program for ages Three and Four is designed to provide development in pre-reading, pre-math, and social skills.

Kindergarten: The full-day program is designed to provide direct instruction in Reading and Math, utilizing manipulatives and other activities to explore concepts.

Primary Grades, First-Third: Building upon the basic skills learned in Kindergarten, the Primary Grades continue with the “hands-on” approach to learning. Development of phonics skills and sight vocabulary lead to fluency and comprehension in Reading and Language Arts. Supported by a Spelling curriculum that develops a child’s ability to incorporate correct spelling into their expressive writing, students will exit Third Grade with a strong verbal base ready to attack the critical thinking skills taught in the Intermediate Grades. Math skills and concepts are developed through a curriculum providing algebraic thinking, which also increases comprehension. Language Arts is taught through presentation of rules and integration into the Writing Process. Science and Social Studies are strongly reinforced at each grade level

Intermediate Grades: In grades Four and Five, the students are challenged to develop their Reading, Writing, and Math skills to a higher level. Students write guided research reports as a part of their Science Fair Project. Their reading skills, including comprehension, are developed with higher critical thinking skills. Students are challenged to reach higher degrees of accuracy and problem solving in Math. Although built into the whole approach to learning at Fairview, independent learning, development of responsibility and accountability are stressed. By the end of Fifth Grade, students should be prepared to go on to the next level with the ability to organize their academics and express their goals.

Middle School: In grades Six through Eight, students are taught in three 2-hour curriculum blocks (Language Arts, Math and Science, and Bible and Social Studies). In addition, they attend Leadership class once per week and P.E. and Performing Arts twice weekly. By using a challenging curriculum combined with accountability, students stay on track, and have the best chance to succeed at the next level.
